Meet Masai, a six-year old Boxer mix with just about everything wrong with him: grade IV bilateral hip dysplasia, bilateral CCL ruptures, bilateral elbow dysplasia, anorexic and a nightmare resume of owners.

Masai’s Story:

I spent the first 5 years of my life attached to a short chain in a backyard of stones and cement. I didn’t see much of my owners. I was fed and given water when they remembered, and when they were angry or drunk, they would beat me with a bat. I never retaliated. I just wanted them to love me and I tried my best to be good.

One day, in the middle of the night, a woman walked into the backyard and took me away. I spent the next 9 months at three different shelters. I was always surrounded by kind people, but no one wanted me. Was I ugly? Was it because my broken legs made me walk funny and scared them? All I really needed was love. I could handle the pain.

Then one day, I was taken for a long trip in the rescue people’s truck. I arrived at a home where the people came running out in tears to greet me. I found my forever home. I have had lots of surgeries to fix my bad legs, but can now run, climb and jump for the first time in my life. They make sure I’m not in pain, and I get rehab treatments twice a week. I’m learning to play, and go to the beach every week! I never stop smiling, life couldn’t be more perfect!

Rescue organizations have the toughest time placing these kids. There are plenty of people out there willing to help, but the task is often too daunting. There are also families going through tough times that love their dog dearly but cannot afford treatments. As a tribute to Masai, we have created a fund to support pet owners that have the heart, but lack the money to rehabilitate these kids and get them back on their feet.

We do not have non-profit status; however, every donation goes into a separate account to be used solely for this purpose.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and humanity.
